Athletes’ and Coaches’ perceptions on the Coach’s Behaviour

PARTICIPANTS INFORMATION SHEET

You are being invited to participate in this study, which is a spin off of CoachEd6, an Erasmus+ co-funded project. 

Before you takepart, it is important to understand whythe research is being conducted and what it will entail. Please take time to read the following information carefully.  Please ask if there is anything that is not clear, or if you require further information.

Who is doing this research?

While this research does not make any use of the funds targeted to CoachEd6, this study brings together the following researchers, from the respective Universities, partners in the same mentioned project.

What is the purpose of this study?

We are investigating the athletes’ perceptions on their coaches’ behaviour and comparing these to the coach’s perceptions on their own behaviour. Furthermore we are exploring whether the Coach-Athlete Relationship has any influence on these perceptions.

Do I have to take part? Can I change my mind once I have started?

You may decide whether or not to take part in this study. If you do decide to take part, you will be asked to give consent for the questionnaire you will be filling in, to be used for this study and/or any future publications. You are free to withdraw from the study at any time and do not have to give a reason.  A decision not to take part or withdraw at any time will not peanlise you in anyway. 

What will happen if I choose to take part?

If you are under 18, we request that your parents / guardians supervise you while filling in this questionnaire. They shall also take responsibility of press the submit button as a sign of CONSENT. If you are over 18, you will first provide consent on the online questionnaire. The intention of the first part of the questionnaire is to explore your background as coach or athlete. That will be followed by a questionnaire exploring perceptions on the coach’s behaviour. Finally there is the section that focuses on the coach-athlete relationship. 

Each part should not take longer than 10 mins. Once finished, pressing the submit button, you will be sending all the information you give us to our data collection database. And your job is complete. 

Will my taking part in this study be kept confidential?

Yes. This research is anonymous, voluntary and completely confidential. All data will be stored in a password protected folder and will be shared only with the researchers and supporting statisticians. Your name, surname and identifying data will never be collected. The Coaches will be asked to generate a uniqe code, which will be passed on the their own athletes, to make it possible for us to compare between the two sides, without knowing who they are.

What will happen with the results of this study?

The results will be published and disseminated as part of the CoachEd6 project, in the final Multiplier Events and in consequent lectures. The team will also do its best to get this paper published in an international peer reviewed journal, and potentially the findings will be used in various coaching related courses and conferences. In any instance, names or any other identifying feature of individual participants will not be revealed. If you would like to know the results of the resarch, a report of the findings can be made available to you, but please not that details of participating individuals cannot be provided.

Are there any risks in participating?

There are no known risks to either physical or psychological health associated with taking part in this study.

What if I am not happy with how the research was conducted?

If you wish to discuss or complain about any aspect of the research, please contact any of the researchers. Otherwise contact the board of ethics at (Unviversity) that has provided ethical clearance for this study.
