CoachEd6 Conference – MALTA

CoachEd6 is an Erasmus+ funded project led by the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST). The aim of the project was to develop four MQF (Malta Qualifications Framework)/EQF (European Qualifications Framework) Level 6 units (24 ECTS) focusing on sports coaching and then pilot these units by delivering them as an Award in Sports Coaching.

The involvement of Mugla SItki Kocman University (Turkey), University of Southern Denmark and Reykjavik University (Iceland), together with MCAST (Malta), spread this experience over four countries thanks to the input of the expert academics and practitioners who were involved in the development of the units.

The Award in Sports Coaching was officially run by MCAST but attracted learners from various countries who could join lectures on campus in any of the partnering countries. With a cohort in Denmark, another in Iceland, another in Turkey, and another in Malta, lecturers and coaching experts from the four countries contributed to this learning experience of the learners on this course.

The International Council for Coaching Excellence also had a very important role – assuring quality across the development, delivery, and assessment of the units.

To celebrate CoachEd6, the final conference will be held on Thursday, 3rd November, between 8.30 am and 1.00 pm, at the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology in Paola. Besides hosting various stakeholders from the field of sports coaching, the conference will also be welcoming the international experts together with the students who were part of the Award in Sports Coaching between 2021 and 2022. A total of 20 learners will be graduating on the day.

This experience will pave the way for Malta and the partnering countries to explore further the possibility of Coaching Education at Higher Education Institutions. Furthermore, it will call for more stakeholders to join forces to engage in sports coaching education. At the end of the day, ‘better coaching education makes better coaches, which makes better athletes’.
